One Man Scramble Pairings - Oct 6th.
Please be on time 8am Shot Gun start!
Check your pairings.
Have a look at your strategy for playing a one man scramble!
#1 Hit your tee ball in the Fairway
#2 If you miss the Fairway and it is in the trees, walk to your ball and hit a second shot (save your scramble shots) - get the second shot as close to the green or back into play!
#3 Use your first scramble shot (one of two extra shots) to hit your second or third shot close to the pin.
# 4 Use your second scramble shot (two of two extra shots) on taking to putts at making par or birdie.
# 5 Key is to attempt to hit fairway on your tee shot or at least give yourself a shot at hitting it near the green.
If you miss your two attempts at PAR, pick up and move to the next tee box, PLEASE!!
Good Luck and Have Fun!

New Berlin Hills Steps Up
As most of you probably know, our final TOC event at New Berlin Hills 2 weeks ago was marred by a tee time snafu and by slow play of the groups in front of us. Later John Rader of NBH, who wasn't present at the course that day, took full responsibility for the issues and offered us free rounds of golf to make up for it.
This was an unsolicited offer on his part, as he made it before we had time to contact him and complain, apparently hearing about the problems from his staff.
I have just received from John 21 certificates for a free round of golf, with cart, for any time on any day up through the end of 2014. I will pass them out to the 21 attendees of the event as I see them over the next week or 2.
Kudos to New Berlin Hills and John Rader for going above and beyond to correct this problem.
I vote we have an outing there again next year,
Jack

SECOND TEAM CHAMPS OVER THE LAST 40 YEARS
I picked up the Second Team trophy from the Currie clubhouse
to give to MCPLA President John Haeflinger, who will get it engraved with our
win this year. The winners from the last
40 years are engraved on the trophy. Brown
Deer had 4 consecutive wins from 2002 through 2005, and we are the only team
with 5 in a row. Since 2000 there have
been just 2 winners, Brown Deer and us, each with 7 titles over that span. In total wins over the last 40 years Brown
Deer is well ahead of us, 14 to 8. Looks
like we’ll need to grab up 6 more titles to catch up. We can start next year.

MCPLA Second Team champs for the 5th straight year
Gentlemen –
Well, we did it once more.
We are MCPLA Second Team champs for the 5th straight
year. Doesn’t that have a nice sound to
it? It was a tough struggle out there in
the rain today, but our guys handled the weather and the opponents, and we
ended up besting Brown Deer by 29 points today, erasing the 16 point lead they
had going in. We took 232 points,
Whitnall was second with 220, Grant had 208, and Brown Deer was 4th with
203. So we finished with 1104 points on
the season to Brown Deer’s 1091. Grant
came in third at 1015.
Everyone contributed today, and a whopping 14 of us took 10
or more points. Four of us took over 20,
Mark Cuthbert, Brian Pedersen, and Gary Zwirlein with all 24, and your humble
captain 22. Lee Gardner chipped in with
19 and Darrell Frenzel 17. Lee was our
medalist with 79, Cuthbert and Jeff Kapp
shot 83, and Frenzel 84. Saks took a
skin with a birdie on the 3rd and Pedersen took one with a birdie on
17. Kapp won the closest in 2 award on
the 16th, and Corey Mader won long drive on 10.
On the season our top point winner was Rich Saks with 97, an
average of 19.4 for 5 matches. Cuthbert
was second with 90, and yours truly 3rd with 84. Thirty three members played at least one
match for us, 5 more than last season.
Today’s results and season standings are listed below and
attached in 2 spreadsheets for those of you who want all the numbers.
Now we can rest on our laurels until next April when we will
begin the 2 a day workouts in pursuit of our 6th straight.
Congratulations and thanks to all,
Jack
