Gentlemen –
Well, the Currie Second Team gave it a good effort Sunday, and we got our share
of the points, but Brown Deer beat us out by 3. They had 245 points to
win, and we took 242 to finish second, pretty much making it a 2 team race
between them and us for the season title. We are 16 points behind Brown
Deer heading into the final match at their place, and Grant is in third, 65
points behind us.
Seven of our players took 20 or more points, Ken Collins
leading the way with all 24 and shooting a nice 74. Darrell Frenzel and
Rick Reiter took 22 points, Jim Wilkinson and Bill Zolandz 21 each, and Rich
Saks and Brian Pederson 20 each. Darrell had the only other honor score
for us, a 78.
For the season Rich Saks has the total Currie point
leadership with a solid 84 points in 4 matches. Mark Cuthbert is a
distant second by 19 points.
In individual highlights Kenny took medalist for the whole group
with his 74. He also grabbed 2 skins on 7 and 9. In addition Brian
(the beast) Pederson won long drive on 17, and Mark Cuthbert took closest to
the pin on number 3.
Details on the Sunday match and overall season standings are listed below.
So, the season, with our 4 year win streak on the line, comes
down to the final match at Brown Deer on Sunday, 9/15, a full 6 weeks
away. There’s a certain poetic justice in that, as they have finished 2nd
in 3 of the last 4 years and 3rd the other. They will be
gunning for us.
I’ll be putting the team together the last 2 weeks of August,
and will be looking at the August 15 WSGA handicap posting to see who is
playing particularly well up to then. As always, if you desire to play in
the big match and have reason to be confident of your ability to do well at
Brown Deer, let me know, and I will take that in consideration.
In the meantime, hone your game and enjoy the next 6 weeks as we
eagerly await the final contest.
