Currie Second Team Captures 6th Consecutive Championship
In a truly nail biting season finale at Dretzka on Sunday the Currie
Second Team hung on for dear life to take the season title by a very narrow 6
points, 1081 to Greenfields 1075. Brown Deer finished in third with
1028.
We took second place in today’s event with 216 points,
losing to Greenfield by 13, but we entered the event with a 19 point cushion,
and thus our scant 6 point margin for the season. The issue remained in
doubt right down to the end, and wasn't settled until the last scorecard was
turned in. It was a nerve wracking wait for those of us on hand to the
conclusion.
Doug Bowring led our boys with 24 points, shooting a
dazzling 73 in the process. Tom Condella, Rich Saks, and Bill Zolandz all
chipped in with 20 points, and Jeff Camosy captured 19.
Twelve of our 16 combatants took 10 or more points. Mike O’Neil carded a
75, Mark Cuthbert and Bob Cristan 82, and Darrell Frenzel and Condella
83.
For the season Bowring took the Currie total points title
with 87, a 17.4 average in his 5 matches. Your humble captain was just
one point back at 86, Saks had 84, Zolandz 83, and Camosy 81.
Twenty seven members played at least one match for the team
this year, and all of them got some points.
We now have 8 months or so to bask in the glory before we
start the quest for 7 in a row next May. In meantime I will be sending
out the mandatory exercise and nutritional guidelines to be adhered to by all
of you in the off season. We’ll expect everyone to return to the team in
tip top physical and mental condition to start the 2015 drive.
All the results are summarized below.
That’s it for now. Congratulations and thanks to
everyone for making this another memorable year for the Currie Second
Team.
Jack
