Second Team Results at Brown Deer 8/20/17

Gentlemen –

Well, we had a chance to overtake Brown Deer at their house in the final 2017 Second Team match, but we couldn’t quite get the job done.  We did manage to win the event with 229 points, but Brown Deer was a close second with 225, so we ended the season in second place behind them by 25 points, 1099 to 1074.  Whitnall finished in third place, 73 points behind us. 

Gary Zwirlein led the team with 23 points. Rick Reiter picked up 20 and Phil Levin, Dom Carini, Rich Saks, and Darrel Frenzel all grabbed 18.  Lee Gardner was our medalist with a fine 74, the second lowest score in the event.  Nader Pakroo, Levin, and Mike O’Neil all shot 80.  It’s not official yet, but it appears Frenzel took a skin with a birdie on 3 and O’Neil took one with a birdie on 10.  We did not win a flag event.

Our high point man for the season was, drum roll please……., Director Brian Pederson, winning 88 points in five matches, a 17.6 average.  Saks was second with 78, and Frenzel captured 70.  For the season we averaged 215 points as a team, winning 3 of the 5 events.  Thirty members played at least one event for the team on the season.  For the second straight year the National was off the rotation, but that will end now and our track will be in the mix next year, I believe, which should be an advantage to us.

In summary, we gave it a good shot but at the end of the day, we couldn’t overcome our poor showing at Greenfield last month, where Brown Deer won their only event of the season, beating us by 83 points.  So, we’ll have to wait until next year to hoist the trophy again.  That will be my 10^th year as captain of this motley crew.  How time flies.
