It was warm and humid at Greenfield today, and the overnight rains prevented the use of carts, but the matches went on nevertheless, and the course played tough. There was standing water, little roll and some wicked pin positions. The Currie troopers fared quite well. We finished 3rd in the event, behind Greenfield and Brown Deer, but more importantly, we jumped to the top of the season standings with just one match to go. It will be a battle there as 3 teams are within just 13 points of us.
Greenfield took 139 points today to win, Brown Deer took 120, and we took 114. Oakwood, which had been in first place, took 94 to fall to 4th, and Grant, which had been tied with us for 2nd , took 103 to drop to third. So, for the season we have 476 points, Greenfield has 466, Grant 465, and Oakwood 463. It will be fun at Whitnall in 2 weeks.
Dominic Carini had a great day today, shooting 73 and winning 17 points. Rick Reiter and Rich Saks took 15 each, I took 12, and Doug Bowring and Phil Levin took 11 each. In addition to Dom’s 73, Levin shot 78, Bowring 79, and Brian Pederson 80 to lead our scoring. Individual awards were taken by Reiter for a skin with a birdie on number 4, and Pederson with longest drive on 17. Our season points leaders going to the finale are Gerry McGrath with 47, Pederson with 42, and Rich Saks and Steve Jaeger with 38 each.
The usual summaries are listed below. If you played today, make sure to post your scores. That will not be done for you.
Our final match will be at Whitnall on Saturday, August 21, starting at 7 AM with low handicappers going out first. I’ll be recruiting a team over the next week or so. If you’d like to play and think you can do well there, let me know. No guarantees, but I like confidence in players.
Many thanks to the Greenfield and County staff for handling the event. They did a great job. And thanks to Jim Sells, the Greenfield 2nd team captain for taking responsibility to get things rolling smoothly at the start and communicating the lift, clean, and place rules to all. Lastly, as always, thanks to Director Pederson for doing the work all season to keep Second Team running well.
See ya,
Jack
