We had a tough day out at Oakwood yesterday, and Greenfield overtook us to capture the season title by just 9 stinking points. You may remember Greenfield beat us 2 years ago by just one point. We now have 9 months or so to lick our wounds and return to retake the title next season. We began the day with a 16 point lead, but we took just 96 points, and Greenfield grabbed 121. Oakwood won the event with 157, and Whitnall was second with 136.
Our point leaders yesterday were Brian Pederson with 17, Dave Ullenberg and Doug Bowring with 13 each, and Rich Saks with 11. Unfortunately the rest of us were in single digits. Ullenberg was our medalist with 78. Steve Jaeger and Brian Pederson shot 83.
Our point leader for the season was, drum roll please, Mark Cuthbert with 57 points. Jeff Camosy, playing just 4 matches won 49, tying yours truly. Jager, Bowring, and Pederson took 47, 45, and 43 respectively.
We also had some individual awards. Dave Ullenberg and Rich Saks both took long putt flags, Dave on number 2 and Rich on number 12. In addition we captured 4 skins. Doug Bowring took 2 with birdies on 12 and 13. Darrell Frenzel took one with birdie on 18. Those were all in the high handicapper bracket. We also had a skin in the lower handicap bracket, that by yours truly with a birdie on the 17th. Frenzel and Bowring in with the high handicappers and Bruss with the low? As Vince Lombardi famously said “What the hell is going on around here”?
Thanks to all of you who came out and played for the team, and to those who have supported us along the way. Despite falling a little short in the end, it’s been a good year, and it’s been a lot of fun for me personally to be associated with such a great bunch of guys.
Anyway, once again, thanks everyone for giving it your all this season. We’ll be back in the hunt next year.
Thanks,
Jack
