MCPLA County Championship at Brown Deer Park Golf Course - Results

 MCPLA Members:

AWC RECAP:  This past weekend, 90 Milwaukee County golfers -- mostly MCPLA members -- participated in our flagship event, the 64th Annual Arnold Walker Milwaukee County Championship.  We had fabulous weather, reasonable pace of play, a challenging and competitive format and setup, and most of all, great golf on the fabulous Brown Deer Park golf course.   Special thanks to our tournament director, Bob Freuck and starter Glenn Jaeger, for running the tournament without a hitch and Brown Deer PGA Pro, Scott Walecki, and his staff, for assisting and creating a great course setup.

Championship Flight: The Championship Flight probably had one of our deepest and most talented fields ever.   The winner came down to a sudden death playoff between Dylan Karvala and Micheal Addie, who both finished  at -2.  Dylan finally won after 4 exciting sudden death holes.  Congrats to the top 5 finishers in the flight:

Dylan Karvala -- 74-66 - 140 -   -2
Michael Addie -- 69-71 -- 140    -2
Ryan Maloney -- 67-74 -- 141   -1
Ryonen Faris -- 70-72   -- 142    E
Tyler Leis      -- 68-76    -- 144    +2

A Flight: John Dobroski came from 6 strokes back after the first day and shot his age (76) to win by one stroke over Ted Krotts and Jim Babin.  Only 2 strokes separated the top 5 finishers in A flight.  Congrats to John and the other top 5 finishers:

B Flight: Steve Jaeger won B Flight wire-to-wire with a very solid 78-80 to win by 4 strokes over iconic sports announcer Steve "the Homer" True who made his tournament debut this weekend.  Congrats to the top 5 finishers:

Steve Jaeger --    78-80 -- 158  +16

C Flight (net):  Congrats to Matt Kusala who came from 3 strokes back to shoot a net 65 and his lowest score ever to win C Flight, by 2 strokes over Joe Maiorelle.   The top 5 finishers in C flight were:

Matt Kusala --  74-69 -- 139  -3
Joe Maiorelle --74-67 -- 141  -1
Glen Barkow  -- 75-70-- 145  +3

In sum, thanks to all the participants for a weekend of great golf, tough competition, and most important, outstanding sportsmanship and camaraderie in the great tradition of our tournament honoree and namesake, Arnold Walker.  Next year, the 2025 Arnold Walker Championship will be held at Dretzka Park, an outstanding course layout which has just completed $1.8 million in course improvements, including new tee boxes and cart paths.  Hopefully, our field can continue to grow and produce great county champions.

Two other brief matters.

Currie Wins 2024 Team Match Championship Trophy:  Congrats to the Currie Park Men's Club and their team captain Jack Bruss for prevailing in the final MCPLA Team Match at Grant Park on Saturday, August 17, and winning their 12th championship in the last 16 years.   And congratulations to the Grant Park Men's Club on a very solid 2nd place finish.  I would like to personally thank our outgoing Director Tony Puglielli for his outstanding three years of service in running Team Matches and also extend a warm welcome to Pat Garvens, who will serve as our incoming Director for the 2025 season.  Welcome Pat.  The 2024 season results are below:
